After the filter press is pressed and maintained under pressure, the filter pulp is forced to pass through the filter medium under the action of pressure, the solid particles are retained on the medium, and the liquid passes through the filter medium, thereby achieving the purpose of separating liquid from solid.



1. Classification of filter presses

  1. According to the filter element: plate and frame type, chamber type, diaphragm type

  2. According to the liquid discharge method: open flow, dark flow, common open and dark

  3. According to the frame structure: beam type, suspension type, frame type

  4. According to the source of the pressing force: hydraulic (hydraulic self-protection, manual locking, manual hydraulic), manual, mechanical

  5. According to the degree of automation: fully automatic, semi-automatic, manual

  6. According to the washing method: forward washing, reverse washing (one-way washing, two-way washing, two-way cross washing, side washing)

  7. According to the plate connection feeding method: upper corner feeding, upper middle feeding, middle feeding, lower corner feeding

  8. According to the filter plate installation direction: horizontal, vertical, drum type


The most common is the horizontal filter press, and the most common horizontal ones are the side beam type and high suspension beam type. Among them, the side beam filter press is the main product of the filter press manufacturing industry, accounting for 95% of the output of the filter press industry, so all personnel engaged in the design, processing, manufacturing, installation, commissioning and maintenance of filter presses should have sufficient knowledge and understanding.




2. Composition of filter press

The filter press is mainly composed of a frame, hydraulic system, electronic control system, filter plate and auxiliary system.



3. Calculation method of the clamping force of the filter press

  • Rated feed pressure F1 of the filter press = hydraulic system pressure P1 x hydraulic cylinder inner diameter area S1

  • Partial reverse thrust pressure F2 of the filter chamber = working pressure P2 (filtration, washing, blowing, pressing) x effective working area S2 in the filter chamber


A. The working pressure in the filter chamber is subject to the clamping pressure of the filter press, that is, the operating pressure allowed by the filter press frame, etc.

B. The operating pressure allowed by the filter plate at a certain operating temperature.

C. F1>F2 (the clamping pressure should be greater than the feed pressure).


4. Installation of filter press

  1. When installing the filter press, first check the concrete foundation structure, which must be flat and solid; for easy operation during unloading, the pedestrian passage must be unobstructed, and a passage of about 1 meter in width must be left around the filter press; the frame should be horizontally and diagonally corrected, the tail plate legs should be fixed with anchor bolts, the cylinder legs do not need to be fixed, and the contact surface with the ground should be smooth to ensure that it maintains a certain degree of free displacement under stress.

  2. Check whether the connecting bolts of the filter press frame are tightened, whether the filter plates are arranged neatly, and whether the holes are aligned. For open flow filter presses, the outlet nozzle should be installed at the lower end of the filter plate and tightened; if the user requires the use of a liquid receiving tray or a flap, the base of the whole machine should be a certain size higher than the base surface, leaving space for the liquid receiving tray or flap.

  3. The filter plates should be arranged neatly on the rack, and no tilting is allowed to affect the normal use of the filter press; the filter cloth must be kept flat and not folded, otherwise leakage will occur; the cloth clamp bolts must be tightened evenly to make the filter cloth close to the feed inlet, otherwise the filter slurry will enter between the filter cloth and the filter plate, affecting the normal use of the filter press.

  4. The installation location of the hydraulic station can be determined according to the user's actual site (some models have installed the pump station and electric box on the rack), the pipeline should be as short as possible, and the short distance should be within 1.5 meters; the hydraulic station should be far away from the unloading point to prevent materials from falling on the hydraulic station and affecting the normal use of hydraulic components or motors; check whether the connections of each oil pipe are loose and whether the oil tank is clean, and then fill the oil tank with HM46 or HM68 anti-wear hydraulic oil.

  5. If there are users with corrosive gases, the electrical control cabinet should be installed in an operating room isolated from corrosive gases to avoid damage to electrical components and affect normal operation (other users can install as needed); after checking that the power supply and motor wiring are correct, turn on the power supply and check the electrical control cabinet again.

  6. When the filter press is hoisted, the place in contact with the hoisting should be padded with cloth or other soft materials.



5. Maintenance of filter press

The maintenance of filter press during use is very important. The mating parts and transmission parts need to be lubricated and maintained, especially the feedback signal position of the automatic control system (electrolytic contact pressure gauge and travel switch, etc.) and the accuracy and reliability of the hydraulic components of the hydraulic system must be guaranteed, so as to maintain normal operation. To this end, the following points should be achieved:


  1. Carefully check whether each connection is firm at any time and whether each part is in good use. If any abnormality is found, the maintenance personnel should be notified in time for maintenance.

  2. Bearings, piston rods and other parts should be checked regularly to keep the mating parts clean and lubricated to ensure flexible movement.

  3. The insulation and reliability tests of the electronic control system should be carried out regularly. If the poor accuracy and inflexibility of the movement caused by the electrical components are found, the electrical components should be repaired or replaced in time.

  4. The maintenance of the hydraulic system mainly involves the inspection and maintenance of the sealing of the hydraulic components and interfaces.

  5. Check the sealing surface of the filter plate regularly to ensure that it is smooth and clean; before pressing, check the filter cloth carefully to ensure that it is not folded, damaged, or slag-included, so that it is flat and intact to ensure the filtering effect. At the same time, rinse the filter cloth frequently to ensure the filtering performance of the filter cloth.

  6. If it is not used for a long time, the filter plate should be cleaned and neatly arranged on the frame of the filter press, and pressed with a pressure of 1-5MP. The filter cloth should be cleaned and dried, and the exposed part of the piston should be coated with butter.

  7. The hydraulic oil should be HM46 or HM68, and it must be kept clean. The hydraulic oil should be replaced once a new machine has been running for a week. When changing the oil, the used hydraulic oil in the oil tank and the oil cylinder should be discharged. The hydraulic oil must be replaced after one month of continued use. It is recommended to replace it every three months in the future to ensure the normal use of the filter press.


6. Precautions for filter press

  1. Please read the instruction manual carefully before use.

  2. Carefully check whether the filter cloth specifications meet the process requirements, whether there is any damage, and whether it is flat and folded during installation.

  3. Check whether the filter plate is installed and arranged correctly and whether the sealing surface is clean.

  4. After the filter press is tightened, it starts working through the feed pump. The feed pressure must be controlled below the rated pressure on the nameplate, otherwise it will affect the normal use of the filter press.

  5. At the beginning of filtration, the feed valve should be opened slowly. The filtrate is often turbid at first, and then turns clear, which is normal.

  6. When flushing the filter plate and filter cloth, be careful not to splash water on the hydraulic station and electric control cabinet.

  7. The overflow valve has been debugged before leaving the factory. If the user needs to adjust the working pressure by himself, the overflow valve should be loosened, and then the oil pump should be started. Slowly adjust the overflow valve to the required pressure, but it cannot exceed the pressure specified by the machine.

  8. When replacing the filter plate, collision is strictly prohibited to avoid damage; the filter plate cannot be removed without authorization to avoid damage to the machine parts due to the piston rod exceeding the stroke; the filter plate should be replaced in time when it is damaged, otherwise it will cause damage to other filter plates.

  9. The hydraulic oil is HM46 or HM68 oil, which is injected into the oil tank through the air filter and must reach the specified liquid level; the oil tank should be sealed to prevent debris and sewage from entering the oil tank, causing the hydraulic components to rust and fail.

  10. The electric control cabinet should be kept dry, and the pressure gauge, solenoid valve coil and several other electrical components should be checked regularly to ensure the normal operation of the equipment.

  11. After work, turn off the switch and cut off the power supply to ensure safety.
